Wood Type

About
My passion for design started the moment I first laid hands on wood type at the historic Hatch Show Print in my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.
As an intern at Hatch, I got to play with wood type every day - turning them around in my hands, fussing with their layout on the press until it was just right, observing the texture they created on paper - and I got to learn from veteran designers about basic principles of design, color, texture, and hierarchy.
My design work grows from these roots. All of the software tools in the world can't replace an eye for balance and alignment, attention to minute detail, and grounding in the purpose and function of good design: to communicate a message clearly and beautifully.
With the barrage of information greeting us at every turn, we need good design to organize our world. My goal as a designer is to enable you to communicate your message clearly to your audience. For more information, please contact me at alexandra.deane@gmail.com or 615.306.5531.
